Description

The agency was originally founded in 1973 as a pilot project under the Foundation of California State University, Sacramento. At that time the name of the agency was Community Child Care Programs, Inc., which became incorporated in 1977. The original purpose of the agency was to provide child care and nutrition programs, in centers and 'satellite' homes, for families who had limited financial resources. In 1996, as a tribute to the founder and respected advocate for children and families, Betty Jane (B.J.) Jordan, the Board of Directors voted to change the corporate name to B. J. Jordan Child Care Programs, Inc.

To build a partnership between school personnel and families. To provide parent education and resources to help parents understand how children learn and to assist with parenting skills. To view parents as important contributors to the program as well as the children's first teachers. To provide opportunities for parents to attend committee meetings, volunteer in the classroom and with field trips, network with other parents, and have regular conferences with teachers. To maintain open and on-going communications between site personnel and parents. To include parents in assessment and planning for their children. To include parents in program evaluation.

To act as a liaison between the certified adult and the family child care provider. To provide training, assistance and input into each child's developmental profile. To inform caregiver of issues that directly impact children, their families, the child care community and/or state funding. To include each provider in the self-review and program evaluation process. To provide technical assistance through site visits, handouts, newsletters, training opportunities, curriculum planning, materials, special needs resources, and meetings.
