BEDSIDE HARP was founded by Edie Elkan, music teacher for over 35 years and certified in therapeutic harp since 2000. In 2002 Edie was invited by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton , in Hamilton, New Jersey to create and launch a first-ever hospital-hosted full service harp therapy program involving: - Providing harp services throughout the Hospital; - Teaching Beginner and Intermediate levels of folk harp; - Offering a certification program to train Intermediate-level folk harpists to work in a variety of medical settings including hospitals, rehabs, birthing centers, cancer centers, nursing homes, hospices, and doctors' and dentists' offices. Thus BEDSIDE HARP was born. In addition to our full harp therapy programs at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton , Bedside Harp has been offering full harp therapy programs as well at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway , since August 2003, at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ since September 2004 and at Abington Memorial Hospital, in Abington, PA, since March 2007. We also teach our Instructional and Certification programs at Bucks County Community College , in Newtown, PA. Bedside Harp has received much praise and acclaim and has been featured on TV on NBC's Today Show, and in print media including The New York Times, The Nursing Spectrum, Asbury Park Press, and Home News Tribune.
