After the visit to Villa del Casale we continue on to our hotel in Agrigento. Though Agrigento is a modern city of about 60,000 the majority of visitors come to experience the past just outside of town. Agrigento also has some fascinating sights in its old town, like the medieval Norman cathedral. Vacation Day 8: Valle dei Templi - Palermo One of Sicily’s most famous historical attractions is without a doubt the Valley of the Temples, just outside Agrigento. Our morning guided tour takes us to this splendid archaeological park. Within the ancient city and its Valley of the Temples are at least seven well preserved doric places of worship from Greek antiquity; the best preserved of which is the Temple of Concord (Harmony), built in the fifth century B.C. After our tour we will stop for a lunch break before we continue to Palermo, Sicily's largest and most cosmopolitan city. There's no other Italian city quite like it. Life in this unique city can be challenging, water is rationed to a few hours every two or three days. Traffic often comes to a complete halt for hours and protests often block central streets. Despite such inconveniences, Palermo remains a jewel of the Mediterranean.

Get out on the water of the Bay of Naples in an optional cruise around Capri in our very own traditional wooden motorboat. See the world-famous Green and White Grottos and choose to get up closer to the world-famous Blue Grotto, with its intense blue glow, on a separate boat ride into the cave.
