Description

It is our honor to provide camp to those who attend the program and share some time with them. It’s an honor to provide respite to caregivers, many of whom are in real need of a break for themselves. And it’s an honor to provide a unique opportunity to young adults who are finding a passion in life to serve others.

BIAV exists to be the primary source of information and personal support for thousands of individuals, families and professionals living in Virginia whose lives have been touched by a life-altering, often devastating injury.

Something happens – an accident, an illness - and suddenly, a brain injury changes everything. What now? How will you cope with it? Who can you turn to for help? How will you find the resources you need? Brain injury is something most individuals don't think about until it happens to them or their family member. When it does, their lives quickly spin out of control and they need compassionate, informed guidance to navigate the intricate system of care.

On April 23, BIAV was pleased to be part of Governor McAuliffe’s bill signing ceremony for legislation that will strengthen our sports concussion bill. Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn introduced HB 1096 to require schools to develop "Return to Learn” protocols to enhance post-concussive management for student athletes. We worked closely with her office to research and recommend language for the bill and worked with other stakeholders and advocates to ensure its passage. We look forward to working with the Virginia Department of Education to draft guidelines for public schools in Virginia.
