Bike for Bread

Description

BIKE FOR BREAD is a non-profit organization based in Willimantic, Connecticut run by local volunteers whose mission is to increase social awareness and raise money to help those in need. Proceeds benefit Connecticut soup kitchens and food banks. Because it is run entirely by volunteers, Bike for Bread has no overhead costs and all money raised goes directly to helping the hungry. Living in one of the wealthiest states in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, people too often assume that the issue of hunger doesn't exist here. Unfortunately, it does. According to Connecticut Food Bank statistics, in our state alone, 350,000 people are hungry or food insecure at some point during the year. Forty percent of these people are children. Since its start in 1996, Bike for Bread has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for those in need in northeastern Connecticut. The volunteers of Bike For Bread are familiar faces in the community who see those in need rising in number. These are not faceless people, but rather friends and neighbors. We need to help.
