About Bion: The Bion companies design and operate advanced waste and wastewater treatment systems for large dairy farms as well as swine and other animal facilities. Bion systems utilize patented biological and engineering processes to provide proven treatment solutions to the nutrient management and air emissions problems associated with these operations.

Bion's patents protect its proprietary technology that uses biological, chemical and mechanical processes to remove nutrients and other harmful substances, as well as extract renewable energy, from high-volume concentrated livestock waste streams. Bion systems provide effective environmental treatment at a substantially lower cost than conventional wastewater treatment plants that rely on expensive highly-oxygenated and chemical processes.

Mark Smith, Bion’s President, stated, “The Pennsylvania DEP’s approval of Bion’s credit calculation methodology and multi-media measurement protocol is a significant milestone for Bion: both in terms of acknowledgement of the significant role that ammonia emissions from livestock operations play in nitrogen deposition, as well as Bion’s ability to largely eliminate this substantial, yet at this time unregulated, source of emissions.

Bion wishes to express its gratitude to the SLC Legislature for holding public meetings for its project to be discussed by the community in an open forum. Bion understands and acknowledges the depth of concern regarding the potential environmental impact of its Project on the community. Bion treats all resources - air, water, nutrients, and energy - as finite. Its technology platform is dedicated to preserving the integrity of the environment, as well as optimize the initial utilization and reuse of resources.

Bion recently signed a memorandum of understanding with a large dairy in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to retrofit its existing dairy operation with a Bion Comprehensive Environmental Management System designed to reduce ammonia emissions and soluble nutrients in the effluent.
