Description
Who We Are BioSphere Consulting, Incorporated is a small company with big dreams based in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz, California. We are designers of sustainable systems that solve common problems and help protect the environment. We are scientists, engineers and environmental specialists who approach each project from a grass roots level (literally). We are passionate and excited about making a positive change in our local community and in the world we live in . . . the biosphere! We work with and among a unique community of passionate innovators and environmentally conscious professionals. We are active participants and advocators of local and state regulatory policies relating to decentralized wastewater. Andrew Brownstone, President / Owner Andrew founded Biosphere in 2005 and brings over thirteen years of diverse experience working as a local consulting engineering geologist and wastewater system designer. Andrew is registered as a Professional Geologist (P.G. #7453). His experience and knowledge of the principles of earth science has proved to provide a critical advantage in the design of systems that ultimately rely on the ability of a given site's soil conditions to provide sufficient infiltration. Throughout his career, Andrew has been responsible for the successful execution of a vast array of challenging projects. While he has played a primary role in many geologic engineering projects that have focused on the evaluation of geologic hazards, his more current emphasis has been in the design of onsite wastewater systems. His experience includes the design and permitting of hundreds of residential and commercial engineered wastewater treatment and dispersal systems that incorporate "alternative" technology. Andrew also has experience contributing to the development of improvement plans, master plans, area studies, erosion control measures, and storm water system designs. His work experience has always involved permitting, technical specifications, as-built drawings, construction cost estimates/bidding, and construction inspections. After graduating from San Jose State University, he worked for the U.S.Geological Survey and with large, multidisciplinary project teams for private and public sector projects as both a project manager, and principal. Andrew is a California native and grew up in Santa Cruz County where he now lives with his wife and two boys. “I love what I do and love where I live and work! The BioSphere Team The staff and subcontractors employed by the company have consistently demonstrated an ability to provide superior service that is responsive to the client's goals and requirements. BioSphere Consulting, Incorporated provides a full range of solutions through site specific evaluation and implementation of the most innovative, soundly engineered onsite wastewater systems available on the planet. The systems we design offer far more than a solution or alternative to a conventional septic system. Our systems reliably treat wastewater to levels that exceed secondary standards for re-use (recycling) as landscape irrigation . . . way beyond a greywater system. We coordinate the entire process from design to permitting, installation and maintenance. Any one of our past clients will tell you that we offer top-quality service and a "program" that works. We apply our experience in geology and soil science to perform exhaustive site evaluations that include constraint mapping, soil testing, groundwater monitoring and soil percolation/infiltration testing. The systems we design close the loop on the natural water cycle provide an important and fundamental step towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future. We have prepared hundreds of successful wastewater system designs for both residential and commercial projects and have been intimately involved with the permitting, installation and maintenance of these systems. Our alternative wastewater treatment system designs mitigate many specific challenging site constraints that prevent a conventional septic system from working properly such as poor soils, limited space or high groundwater. Our systems also provide dramatic advantages over conventional septic systems such as: -(50% to 90% less area taken up with a leachfield)
