The BLACKSHEEP TRADING COMPANY had its beginnings in the year 1971 when Betsy Meister started selling sheepskin rugs (a product of her family's small sheep farm) at some local fairs near her Connecticut home. Her business grew over the years as she sold from her home as well as the fairs. In 1985 she became business partners with Peter Lazas. They have sold their products at fairs and shows throughout the Northeast, and have conducted their business in a few store locations on U.S. Route 7 in Connecticut. In 1996 they have moved to Trenton, Maine and have opened a store on Route 3 in Trenton between Ellsworth, and Bar Harbor.
