Welcome to Blair Academy! This web site is designed to give you a sense of our school in particular and, if independent residential schools are new to you, the boarding school experience in general.If you visit-and we hope you do-you will be impressed with the new facilities and the ongoing construction of buildings, fields and walkways around our campus. Blair is, however, an old school, established in 1848 by John I. Blair. Some of our buildings date back to the mid-1800’s, and we have traditions that have been part of our school for over a century.One traditional aspect of Blair is our size. Even as we are actively building and improving our physical qualities, Blair is and will continue to be a school of about 400 girls and boys and 70 faculty members. Our size plays a crucial role in the spirit of our school as we blend supervision and structure with opportunity and independence. Thus, while we are small enough to run study halls, to offer special help sessions, and to foster close student-faculty relations, we also have the size to support exciting curricular offerings like Asian Studies, architectural design, economics, Chinese and creative writing. In addition, Blair has two choral singing groups, a Model United Nations program, the best high school wrestling team in America, and a Habitat for Humanity trip. We see Blair’s size as being a fundamental quality of our school, a quality which distinguishes us from other schools in the Mid-Atlantic region.
