The US Department of Veteran Affairs contracted Waslh/DeMaria Construction to consolidate and modernize the inpatient services at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Walsh/DeMaria chose Block Electric Company as the electrical subcontractor. The electrical contract was let first because of the complicated existing conditions at the site. Three buildings needed new medium voltage services from the central plant before demolition of the existing buildings could begin. The problem was that the structures to be demolished lay between the central plant and the buildings to be re-fed.

Two brothers, Frank and John Block founded Block Electric Company in 1920. The company was started as an electrical contracting company serving Northern Illinois. Our small family business grew steadily though its first three decades and was incorporated in 1948.

I am sending you this letter in reference to the three projects you have and still are completing for us at the Northwestern University Chicago Campus. I would just like to tell you what a pleasure it has been working with you, your company and your field personnel on these three projects. I would especially like to acknowledge your field foreman - Jim Strege, and the exceptional job he has done on these three projects.

I am writing to extend my personal gratitude to you and your staff for the exceptional work performed at the US Cellular Call Center project in Bolingbrook. This project presented a very demanding schedule. We were successful in meeting this schedule, in large part, due to your efforts. Your team was a pleasure to work with on this challenging project. I truly appreciate your efforts to keep this project moving. Everyone stepped up to the plate and we were able to hit a "home run" together. You will be pleased to know that US Cellular is pleased with the space.
