The Physics class studies forces and the effect those forces have on the motion of objects. Sliding a wooden block across a table requires a force to overcome the frictional resistance. Pulling the block at a steady speed matches the applied force exactly to the frictional force. After all, Newton said so “An object with no net force applied moves at a constant speed.” In the first picture Cynthia Smith and Ryan Pajela measure the force needed to pull the block.
