Following the IPCPR Convention in New Orleans, it was back to work for a week. It was good to be back in the normal swing of things and I was excited by the company's offerings to the retailers. But then it was time for a relaxing vacation in Las Vegas. I was able to get tickets for Cirque du Soleil's new Viva Elvis show at the Aria Resort & Casino. I also got a package deal at the Mirage that included the hotel stay plus tickets to see Terry Fator, the famous ventriliquist who won America's Got Talent. Diane and I checked into the Mirage, which is a beautiful resort and casino. It features a huge aquarium behind the front desk and a large atrium in the lobby. The rooms are modern and spacious. There were a few minor housekeeping and maintenance issues that needed to be addressed and they were handled promptly. The first night we just settled in and rested. Tuesday night we grabbed a cab for the Aria which is located in the new Las Vegas City Center. This is a huge complex containg several hotels and unlimited entertainment possibilities. We arrived early as we wanted to pick up our tickets from Will Call and have dinner first. The restaurant we chose was Jean Georges Steakhouse. This was the most incredible dining experience Diane and I have enjoyed in YEARS! It started with the great ambiance, the pleasant and helpful waiter, and our discovery of that night's specials. We went "special" all the way, including the salad, the main course and the side dish of creame corn w/jalapenos. Our waiter had the salad split in the kitchen for us and did so without being asked or sighing. The main event was spectacular! Somewhere between Prime and Kobe lives another cut of beef called "Tomahawk 300" which is from Australia. Apparently this is a very special cut and has been aged 300 days instead of the usual time. The restaurant was featuring New York steaks of this grade for $50.00. We ordered two, one rare and one medium rare. This steak was grilled to perfection, crisp outside and perfect inside. It was so tender it was unbelievable. It was marbled and was so tasteful that we decided it woud be a long time before we ever ordered another steak. This steak was beyond belief! For desert, I ordered a Lemon Merange Tart w/Ginger Ice Cream. What a delightful ending to a fabulous gastrological experience! I would recommend this restaurant very highly for your next visit to Las Vegas. After dinner, it was showtime. There was plenty of time so I headed downstairs for a quick cigar in the casino. I gave Diane her ticket and she agreed to meet me in the theatre. The seats were great-third tow but off to the side. For some reason, perhaps because it was the same producer (Cirque du Soleil), I found myself comparing "Viva Elvis" to the Beatles "Love", which we had seen a few years earlier. But at the end of the day, it was a great production on it's own and we left feeling very satisfied. Love had been literally a "3-ring circus" which never allowed us to focus on any one element. Viva Elvis was more of a stage show and really allowed the audience to focus.
