The Boondocks BBS was started in May of 1995 as a full-featured Linux-based Bulletin Board Service (BBS). I (John Hill SYSOP) hoped to provide an alternative to the mass produced Windo$e and DOS based systems that were then currently available.From the little corner of Southeast Kansas known as "Parsons", the Boondocks was the first BBS in that area to offer usenet, e-mail and even shell accounts to users. Since our beginning much has changed, the Boondocks is no longer a dial-up BBS, in fact, no BBS software runs on the system now at all. Easy and inexpensive access to the Internet makes it difficult, if not impossible, for a small system to offer much to the computing public. While it would be difficult to compete with the big organizations, I still have silly dreams of operating a BBS... I keep thinking of a "Blast from the past' type of thing with old-fashioned bbs games and discussion areas.
