Boulder County Fair

Description

The Boulder County Fair & Livestock Show began 139 years ago when a group of 100 prominent Boulder County farmers and ranchers developed this community activity as a way to highlight what the Colorado Territory had to offer its people. Today, the event continues to highlight all the aspects of life in Boulder County and the diversity of its population. The first Fair was held October 12, 1869 in Boulder. In 1899, it moved to Longmont where it was a one-day event. Horse races were held and many exhibits were on display. Unfortunately in 1946 the Fair was canceled due to a polio epidemic. Not until 1978 did the Fair move to its present site at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont. The 125th anniversary of the Fair was celebrated in 1994, with over 100,000 people in attendance. Supported by thousands of volunteers and exhibitors, the Boulder County Fair is the largest event in Boulder County. The Fair strives to provide an opportunity for the general public to experience Boulder County's agricultural heritage. It continues to provide a service that county residents and visitors from across the state and country find both entertaining and educational.
