Description
At 11 weeks your puppies should have had some minimal experience of going out with the herd and staying with them. You will want to verify that this is their behavior. Since you are getting 2 puppies, there is no doubt the pups will want to play with each other at various times. This is very normal and will involve chasing, mock fighting, growling and rolling on the ground. Your concern here is not that they do not play, but that when they play they do not try to involve the goats and that they keep their play separated.
We also provide whatever educational support, such as feeding, kidding, and life cycle information of the Boer goat to our customers as is appropriate.
In order to more closely align our practice with our principles, we feel it's necessary for us to restrict our customer base in regards to the purchase of Great Pyrenees for pets.
We have also been told that holding the goats in close quarters during extremely cold weather is necessary for the goats' health. The person told us that when horned goats are closely penned that horrible gorings can occur and the she had had the experience of dealing with the results of her goats being gored in this situation. We have no reason to disbelieve her story. We have also been told by people we know who live in northwestern Nebraska, that they do not pen their goats at any time of the year due to weather and they have had no ill effects.
We will not sell a Great Pyrenees to any family that has children younger than 8 years of age living at home unless the family owns a Great Pyrenees or has had a companion Pyrenees pass away recently. We believe a family with young children should not own a Great Pyrenees as a pet unless they already have extensive experience with the breed.
