Breakbone DanceCo. is Chicago's only Dance Exile troupe performing their own extreme movement style called The Bodyslam Technique developed in 1998 by rebel, rocker & reactionist Atalee Judy. Charged with an arsenal of raw energy, ferocious athletes and a maddening emotional onslaught, Breakbone challenges those who perceive dance as an aesthetic reprieve to one of a powerful reactionary movement rebellion. By exploring & exploiting an honest use of gravity, personal experience, opinions & powerful imagery we have brought an unabashed performing style that is unprecedented in the Chicago area. Breakbone empowers humanity by excavating the differences between human frailty and human strength. Breakbone was founded by Atalee Judy in 1997 to house her extreme emotional and athletic nature while embracing her background in the 1980's punk hardcore scene of New York's lower east side and embuing her frustrations with the preoccupation and aesthetic direction of dance on her own artistry. Breakbone DanceCo.is an Illinois not-for-profit organization and is recognized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Make a tax-deductible donation to Breakbone!
