I’ve never gone into how exactly secure and backed up all of your photos are, but since all the cool kids are doing it, I figured that I ought to as well. While my setup is not nearly as fancy, or expensive, as Chase Charvis’ , it still serves me, and therefore you, well. P data center, pictured above. I’ve got five (that’s right… five) 1 terrabyte Lacie external hard drives . I purchased them through Amazon for about $120 each *. When I get home from a shoot, I download all the images onto my MacBook from the CompactFlash cards. I keep all working files and in-work images on my MacBook. The MacBook then gets backed up hourly to one of the 1TB drives using Apple’s TimeMachine . Then, I have two external hard drives each for my personal photos/video and professional photos/video. One of the drives serves as the archive for the images, videos, and files. The other serves as a backup of the archive. So, when I get done editing photos, I upload them to the previously mentioned Zenfolio and move them to the appropriate archive external hard drive. The archive external hard drives are backed up weekly using ChronoSync . So, all photos are stored on an archive drive and then backed up twice (once on-site and once off-site).
