The Clubhouse model has always been recovery-focused. Fountain House, located in New York City, was founded in the 1940s, as an outgrowth of an earlier movement known as WANA (We Are Not Alone). This was a time when very few professionals talked about recovery for persons with psychiatric disabilities, much less that these persons could or should return to work, school, or independent living. Clubhouses came along to change everything!

First and foremost, at Bridge House, our primary goal is to provide a safe and supportive place where members can experience a sense of belonging. We are a Certified Clubhouse , which means we espouse the rigorous 36 International Standards for Clubhouse Programs , as outlined by Clubhouse International. Thus, we respect every member's right to a safe place to come, a place to return to, meaningful work, and meaningful relationships. Membership is free of charge and participation is always voluntary.

Although we do require our members to be referred by a mental health professional, we are happy to assist you in obtaining that referral. With 27 years of experience working with clinicians, psychiatrists, caseworkers, social workers and residential providers, Bridge House can help you connect to the professionals and resources that will set your family member on the path to recovery.
