Aligned Innovation from the Very Beginning… Innovation allowed two aggressive young men to emerge from the midst of the Great Depression with two new products that would make major contributions to the housing industry. Henry L. Broan, in 1932, developed and manufactured a kitchen fan called the Motordor ® Fan that provided quiet and efficient kitchen ventilation. His creation launched what is today Broan-NuTone LLC. Four years later, in 1936, J. Ralph Corbett developed a melodious door chime replacing the obnoxious door buzzer of the time. His development launched what is today NuTone, Inc.
On January 1, 2012, the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (the “Act”) will go into effect in the State of California generally for retail sellers and manufacturers doing business in California, which have worldwide gross receipts of more than $100,000,000.
Local expansion was quickly followed with global expansion. In 2004, Broan-NuTone (HK) LTD was established in Hong Kong to support global procurement efforts. The next year, 2005, Broan Building Products (Huizhou) Co., Ltd. was established in China and began manufacturing ceiling fans, bath fan upgrade kits, bulb heaters, decorative fan lights and 660 series fans. In 2006, Best Poland was built and in operation in less than one year producing economy range hoods for the European market.
President Ronald Reagan visited the Broan headquarters in 1987 to view its facility and visit with employees. President Reagan said, “One of my greatest satisfactions as President is the opportunity to witness firsthand such outstanding examples of American industry as Broan. Your company exemplifies America’s economic miracle and confirms my faith that our nation’s best days are yet to come.” Broan introduced its improved air filtration systems, called MicroTek, in the 1980s following some five years of engineering and development work to improve ductless range hood technology.
