Without knowing it, hundreds of thousands of people wear apparel and accessories distributed by Broder. Consumers may not recognize the company's name, but clothiers and promotional agencies certainly do. Whether the item is a company golf shirt, a T-shirt from a rock concert, or a souvenir shirt from a vacation destination, chances are it has passed through one of our 9 distribution centers in the United States.Broder was founded in 1919 by Max and Louis Broder as a haberdasher in Detroit. The company distributed underwear, socks and hosiery to department stores.In 1955, Jack Brode saw a new opportunity emerging from what had been a staid, traditional market and purchased the company. In the 1960s while mass-market pantyhose replaced traditional stockings, T-shirts began to soar in popularity, helped along by the tie-dye craze of the early 70s. Underwear manufacturers expanded their knitwear production to include the popular T-shirts and asked Broder to distribute those as well. It was the beginning of a company-changing relationship with one of the most popular garments of all time. Under the management of Harold Brode, who took command of his father's business in the early 70s, Broder moved aggressively into the imprintable sportswear market.
