For over 30 years, the Village of Brookfield was without a bank. In 1962 a group of ten businessmen founded the First National Bank of Brookfield, located in the Grand Boulevard business district. The bank was established during a period of rapid growth in Brookfield when the local population doubled. The First National Bank of Brookfield experienced great success during the first five years, growing to $5 million dollars in assets by the end of 1967.First National Bank of Brookfield became part of a one bank holding company, 1st Brookfield Inc., founded by Robert E. Hennebry in 1969.In 1972, the First National Bank of Brookfield with assets of $11 million moved its headquarters to the current location at 9136 Washington Avenue on Memorial Circle in the Eight Corners business district.
