Taking pride in where you live continues to be the catalyst for the Annual Brooklet Peanut Festival. The festival spotlights the town, our people and the leading income-producing agricultural industry of Bulloch County --- peanuts. The idea was conceived by a group of women who were playing canasta and talking about decorating the downtown area for the holidays. The Town Council gave approval for the project and suggested that they look into improving the appearance of the town. In order to finance future projects, a decision was made to start a festival. The peanut was the ultimate choice for a trademark. Approximately 22,000 acres are planted each year in the county. Peanuts account for over $26 million of Bulloch's $127 million agricultural income. The first festival, held in 1990, drew about 2,000 people and helped finance a beautiful town park lined with benches around a gazebo and fountain. The park was dedicated to the Town of Brooklet at the 6th Annual Peanut Festival in 1995. Even though it started small, every year something is added to the festival and it gets bigger and better. It has proven to be a day of family fun with something for all ages and a time for people to see what a nice town we have with it's wonderful people. Join us in August for this community celebration.
