CHELMSFORD, Mass., March 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq:BRKS) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Granville-Phillips instrumentation business, based in Longmont, CO, to MKS Instruments, Inc., headquartered in Andover, MA, for $87 million in cash. Granville-Phillips was founded in 1954, acquired by Helix Technology in 1998 and became part of Brooks through its merger with Helix in 2005. Granville-Phillips generated approximately $28 million in revenue in fiscal year 2013.

Steve Schwartz, CEO of Brooks, stated, "This acquisition meaningfully expands our capabilities in front-end semiconductor automation as the DMS products are complementary to Brooks' product offerings. A significant proportion of DMS revenues are generated from product sales to large IC manufacturers, further strengthening our position with this important customer base. DMS' leading automated cleaner and stocker solutions combined with Brooks' existing automation systems will allow us to deliver best of breed systems that address our customers' cleanliness and productivity requirements.

The cryopump repair process is designed to provide the service customer with the same high outgoing quality levels of our new product as well as the responsiveness expected of a global service operation. These objectives are achieved through leveraging the strengths of both our factory and our local repair centers.
