Description

backstage and in the footlights, in dorms and dining hall, art center, and chapel, friendships are forged at Brooks as both students and teachers strive to do their very best. This is the cornerstone of Brooks' success.but to providing a nurturing environment that is based on constructive adult involvement in students' lives. Whether it be an advisee conference or sports practice, glee club or play rehearsal, Math Team meet, ski trip, gathering of the International Club, "cookie dough night" at the headmaster's or open house at a faculty member's apartment, everything at Brooks contributes to the sense of community that young people and the adults who work with them experience here. Its peaceful New England setting on 242 acres of meadows, lawns, and forest lends a village feel to Brooks and provides opportunities for work and play: an impromptu frisbee game outside the Student Center, an environmental science class study of a pond or marsh, a literature class performing scenes from Twelfth Night in a garden outside the library, pairs of students returning from a walk to a nearby farm store for cider and donuts--all are part of the Brooks experience.on the shores of pristine Lake Cochichewick in 1926, led by a 24-year-old headmaster whose mission was to draw the very best from the first fourteen young men who enrolled. Approaching its 75th anniversary, Brooks is now a coeducational school of 340 boarding and day students. But its mission continues: to encourage young people to reach their potential not only in academics, but also in extracurricular activities and in service to the community.
