THE DECEMBER REPORT AS DEER SEASON HAS COME TO AN END AND ANOTHER YEAR HAS COME AND GONE WE CANNOT HELP BUT TO REFLECT BACK ON WHAT A YEAR IT HAS TRULY BEEN. WITH A SLOWING ECONOMY, THOUSANDS OF JOB LOSSES, HOME FORECLOSURES, BUSINESS FAILURES, ETC., WE AT BUCK RUN FEEL VERY FORTUNATE AND BLESSED TO HAVE SURVIVED ANOTHER YEAR AND ARE VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO 2010 AND ALL ITS CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITES. DEER SEASON CONCLUDED WITH OUR BEST DECEMBER EVER. THE LAST WEEK WAS MOST MEMORABLE AS JUST 3 DEER HUNTERS AND 3 HOG HUNTERS WERE IN CAMP. I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE SAFE TO SAY, WE ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEER HUNTING AS OVER 30 ANTLERED BUCKS WERE SIGHTED BY THE HOG HUNTERS, MANY IN THE 130" AND ABOVE B&C CLASS. ONLY 5 WERE HARVESTED BY THE DEER HUNTERS WHICH SHOWS GREAT PROMISE AND ENCOURAGEMENT FOR NEXT SEASON. FINAL TOTALS FOR DEER SEASON WERE 163 HARVESTED WITH JUST 31 MISSES. THIS WAS THE BEST SHOOTING PERCENTAGE WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. MANY FACTORS PLAYED A PART IN THIS SUCCESS TO INCLUDE: SAND BAGS, SHOOTING PROPS ADDED TO STANDS AND PLAIN AND SIMPLE, HUNTERS TAKING THEIR TIME TO GET THE IDEAL SHOT PLACEMENT. MEANWHILE, MUCH RAIN HAS FALLEN IN THE SWAMP AND TEMPERATURES ARE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN TEEN LOWS AND 40 HIGHS MAKING A GREAT MIX FOR TREMENDOUS HOG HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES.
