At the end of the evening, Meg and Steve excused themselves and Rangi and I were left alone. We talked for almost an hour. Towards the end of the conversation Rangi mentioned that he would like to be just friends. My heart sank because I thought he was dismissing the idea of a romantic relationship. He then followed up by asking me if I would go to the Big Apple Circus with him that weekend. At the time this confused me but I agreed that it would be fun to go and we exchanged numbers. Later, I found out that Rangi was nervous and hadn't meant to give the impression that he just wanted to be friends. That Sunday we went to the Big Apple Circus. I hadn't been to the circus in a while and Rangi was the perfect companion for this event. He was so happy and excited and took joy out of the little details around us. His attitude was contagious. We then went to Molly's Balloon for dinner and then back to my apartment where we talked for three hours. Neither one of us wanted the date to end but we knew we had to call it a night because we both had work the next day. Rangi and I continued to enjoy each other's company in the weeks that followed. I was surprised and happy at how easily we got along and how comfortable we felt around each other. Rangi was such a positive force that I knew I wanted him to be a part of my life.
