BuildSite was founded in 1999 by Ned Trainor and Mark Anderson to provide the U.S. construction industry with a practical, single-source solution for finding product and technical information online and for assembling submittals and similar documents. Ned, BuildSite's president, came from the distribution industry, most recently from Burke Concrete Accessories, a nine-branch distributor. Mark, BuildSite's chief technical officer and system architect, came from the high-tech world, where he designed, built and shipped multiple successful products on both Windows and Unix. The inspiration for BuildSite came in the fall of 1996, at a jobsite trailer for the Gap Headquarters building in San Francisco.
