Description
The Kainalu Project begins with a simple message. “Our goal is to promote harmony and connection between those in the water.” With rampant territorialism and negativity across the world’s finest surf spots and beaches, the message has resonated with some of the world’s greatest professional water sportsmen/women. From big wave surfers and stand up paddle surfers, to bodysurfers and spear fishers, it has been brought to life through some amazing photographs and background music. Ambassadors of the program include Shane Dorian , Jamie Mitchell , Raimana van Bastolaer , Ekolu Kalama , Kimi Werner , Teiva Joyeux and Jenny Kalmbach . Photographs were graciously donated by Tim McKenna , Thibert Lussiaa, Wim Lippens and others. Bands who donated their music for the experience include Flowmotion and Spare Rib & the Bluegrass Sauce . It was necessary to build a robust online community for the general water sports public to get involved through participation. To achieve this we created a social networking site where users could connect, share videos, photographs and stories on the topic. The site would also stream content from the Blog, Twitter, Facebook, real-time industry news syndicates and surf reports to keep people coming back. We included a community section to the Media Gallery to tie in member participation, and showcased chosen users’ names and locations with a Kainalu branded badge on select photographs. Members of the community were asked permission to include their photos on the hub site and there were no objections. A blog was created that involved contributors from Costa Rica, Hawaii, Tahiti and California that would continue to spread the message of Aloha. Each post was categorized by contributor and allowed users to participate in moderated discussions. The blog also streamed syndicated content from created Facebook, Twitter and Flicker accounts.
