Description

EARLY HISTORY: We read 100 conflict resolution resources and synthesized these into the BULLYPROOF acronym. We developed a vision for a bright, nonviolent future in 1986. In 1988, we moved to Los Angeles where we worked with producers and directors to promote increased depiction of non-violent problem-solving in films. We enlisted the support of Martin Sheen, Mike Farrell, Edward James Olmos, Robert Watts and other. We developed two feature-film screenplays. SANTA FE OFFICE was opened in 1989. We closed the LA office in 1994. TEEN RAP 'N ROLL OPERA: In 1992 our president wrote a BULLYPROOF teen "rap 'n roll opera" and developed this into a program in which teens are mentored to write their own BULLYPROOF play. We've had performances in St. Paul, Shreveport, Farmington, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. We produced a video of the production directed by Sam Leyba of the Aztec Street Theater and Wayne Sabato of Santa Fe Performing Arts. In this low-budget but powerful video, youth at risk testify about the behavior-changing impact of this performance-based learning experience. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM: Under contracts with the Department of Health and with significant community support, we developed and tested prototype 3 month and 9 month BULLYPROOFtm programs for fifth and sixth grade classes. The children in the core class make and build their own puppets, and then use these puppets to perform and to become peer mentors, teaching other students BULLYPROOFtm techniques...
