Bunkie General Hospital opened its doors to the citizens of Avoyelles Parish on June 7, 1971 as a community based, non-profit healthcare provider. The roots of the facility go back a few years before, when concerned citizens began the process of securing a new hospital for Bunkie and the surrounding area. In February 1968, Hospital Service District #1 of Avoyelles Parish was organized by the Avoyelles Parish Police Jury with a five-member board of commissioners. This board, working in conjunction with the physicians and other community leaders, set about the task of making our hospital a reality. In 1969, the Haas Investment Company donated the land where the hospital is located. Shortly thereafter, the hospital was constructed and opened in 1971. Today, Bunkie has a modern 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with a 24 hour emergency department. Since 1984, Bunkie General Home Health now Bunkie Home Care, has met the healthcare needs of patients in their own homes...
