Bill Burchell was just a boy in 1942. When his parents ventured their savings to start a small nursery at their family home north of Modesto, California - in the heart of the fertile San Joaquin Valley. With a degree in pomology from the University of California at Berkeley and many years of experience in the California fruit industry, Bill's father, Irvin Burchell, possessed both the training and the expertise to succeed in the nursery business.After earning his degree in pomology from U.C. Davis, Bill took his place alongside Irvin in the nursery. Together, father and son built the organization that our customers have come to trust and rely on. Irvin died in 1987 and today, Bill is president of The Burchell Nursery, Inc. with his son, Tom Burchell at his side.A half century after Irvin Burchell opened his small business, Burchell Nursery is the recognized leader in the nursery industry, selling more than two million trees a year. The Burchell Nursery remains family owned and operated.
