The Story Behind the Bzz The number one question we receive is, "How did BzzAgent get started?" The seeds of BzzAgent were planted in late 2001 when Dave Balter, founder and CEO of BzzAgent, found himself at a transition period in his life. He'd recently sold a promotions agency and was looking for the next challenge. Leading up to this point, he had read books like The Tipping Point, Unleashing the Idea-Virus, and Anatomy of Buzz. Dave was interested in the concept of "buzz", but he wasn't sure how to apply it.One afternoon, Dave's friend, Eric, told him about Butterfly Economics, a book about the new speed of communications and how people's voices were affecting the world economy. The author, Paul Omerod, was making the point that business isn't a matter of just "changing" the numbers any longer — it's a matter of understanding that people are the change agents.Later that night, the lightbulb went on. Dave realized no one was truly tapping into the honest voices of consumers. What if there was a way to tap into the very nature of people — to understand how people communicate — and help them share honest Word-of-Mouth with each other? He hopped in the shower (he does his best thinking there), and the rest is history.
