Description

"Always at your cervix. April 2010 www.nycmidwives.com Judith Rodenbach Judith Rodenbach, from Hanover, Germany, will be observing with us from May 17th to June 23rd. Judith is 21 years old and in the last year of midwifery training. She “can't wait to experience the work of US midwives and learn about the differences and similarities. And I'm very excited to finally see New York of course!” If any of you are going to deliver in the Birthing Center and would allow Judith to observe, we would be very grateful. We hope you will all welcome her to NYC and try to help her understand our very different health care system here in America. Elizabeth’s Travels Toasting the Sunset in Costa Rica Happy spring! So far it's been a 'beach' of a year for me! I traveled to Mexico in December for a conference on health care for women over 50, a topic relevant to our practice and to myself! My next trip was to Costa Rica in March for 2 weeks----then, to top it all off, once Barbara was back from Hawaii I spent a few days on Montauk! I definitely need a beach house. Upcoming travel plans include Montreal over Memorial Day weekend for sightseeing by day and dancing by night. I still love the tango and go out several nights a week, although a recent interest has been cutting into my dance hours. Last September I started Turkish language classes in preparation for my trip to Turkey in September 2011. I'll be touring around for 3 weeks and want to at least try to communicate with people when I'm there. It's a fun challenge, and good exercise for my brain. Plus it provides free entertainment for my Turkish friends! I join Barbara in welcoming Judith to our office in May. Barbara’s Travels As many of you already know, my mother died 11/6/09 at home, with hospice care. Her artwork graces our office (and my home), so her spirit is ever present, but she is sorely missed. My older daughter, Amy, has moved with her family to Tulsa, Ok. to finish law school and will start her first job as an attorney with a firm there. She was able to find a house to rent only 5 blocks from my father, so he is happy to have her and his 2 great-grandchildren so close. I have been going down to see them about once a month. My March visit to Tulsa was followed by a flight to Kauai, Hawaii, for a conference on high risk obstetrics (what a place to get continuing education credits!) My younger daughter, Jennifer, and her daughter, Clementine, shared my room at the Lihue Marriott. They enjoyed the pool and the beach while I was at the conference sessions in the morning. We had time most afternoons to explore the beautiful island and do a little hiking and snorkeling. Jen, Clementine & Barbara Jen has just started her own non-profit - check out www.codeforamerica.org to see what she's up to. I will be flying out to Oakland for Clementine's 7th birthday the weekend of May 6th. In June, Amy's kids, Kendall (now 13) and Kieran (10) will be coming to visit me in NYC. 100% Reimbursement for Midwives The new health care reform bill passed in late March at long last rectifies the inequity in federal law between what midwives and doctors must be paid for their services. Since President Lyndon B.
