Description
Making a Difference, One Supply Chain Career at a Time: Derek Yamamoto and CSCMP’s Southern California Roundtable by Madeleine Miller-Holodnicki, Marketing and Communications Manager, CSCMP Derek Yamamoto Senior Buyer—Logistics Pharmavite LLC and President, CSCMP’s Southern California Roundtable “If you’re going to do something, do it well.” Those are the words that CSCMP’s Southern California Roundtable president Derek Yamamoto lives by. And that same philosophy is what guides his leadership of this thriving group of dedicated supply chain and logistics management professionals. “When I was asked to take on the role of president,” Derek relayed, “I thought that I could make a difference. My vision for our roundtable was to transform it into a high-performance culture, which, in turn, would enable us to make a profound impact on all of our members.” Born at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, to an Army captain father and elementary school teacher mother, the family moved around during Derek’s early years. He and his parents, brother, and sister eventually settled in sunny Los Angeles, California, just in time for him to start kindergarten.

A leading technology appliance manufacturer's retail supply chain is challenging to manage profitably and efficiently due to the fact that many of the items sold in the manufacturer's stores are highly specialized and/or have high price points. This results in intermittent demand patterns that are difficult to forecast by traditional methods. However, in order to truly have a complete model of the retail business for planning purposes, a solution to this problem was critically necessary in order to be successful.
