That was the turn of the century, before the founding of C.F. Tompkins Co. Furniture on Washington Street in Salem, Massachusetts. It was before the Great Salem Fire of 1914, which indirectly provided an impetus for the business.Years later, C.F. Tompkins Co. has seen two world wars, the Great Depression, and changes in both its community and its industry. But some things haven't changed. C.F. Tompkins Co. is still owned and operated by the Tompkins Family with the same strong principles that Coles started the business with.
