Founded in 1983, Cadiz Inc. (Nasdaq National Market Symbol "CLCI") is a publicly held agricultural and water development firm. With its wholly owned subsidiary, Sun World International, Inc.Cadiz is one of California's leading vertically integrated agricultural operations, generating more that $100 million in annual revenues. The company currently owns and operates more than 57,000 acres of landholdings throughout Central and Southern California. A reliable supply of water is vital to California's urban, agricultural and environmental interests. However, in coming years, severe water shortages are projected, driven by California's rapidly increasing population and a reduced allocation of water from the Colorado River, one of Southern California's primary water sources. This situation is leading to increased values for both water resources and prime agricultural land. Therefore, Cadiz' business strategy is to acquire and develop water-related land and agricultural assets, as well as selected water-related technologies. Such investments include land with undeveloped groundwater resources or storage potential, developed agricultural land with secure and reliable water rights, and selected technologies for water conservation, reclamation, production and conveyance. The company's landholdingsinclude more than 20,000 acres of prime agricultural properties, most of which are located within two of North America's premier agricultural regions: the San Joaquin and Coachella Valleys. Cadiz also owns more than 37,000 acres in the eastern Mojave Desert. These landholdings are underlain by underground aquifer systems with demonstrated potential for innovative water storage and supply programs.
