Calhoun Vision, Inc. is a privately held company dedicated to enhancing people's quality of vision through advanced technology in materials science and optics. We have a separate website dedicated to patients at www.lalvision.com .

Calhoun Vision, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Dr. Daniel Schwartz, an ophthalmologist at the University of California, San Francisco, and two scientists at the California Institute of Technology, Professors Robert Grubbs (who won the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work in an unrelated area) and Julia Kornfield. They conceived the idea of a Light Adjustable Lens (LAL®), the power of which could be changed after implantation in the eye by the painless and noninvasive application of light.
