Aetna: Standard provider contract provisions generally apply to all of our plans and products that the provider participates in. However, it is not mandatory for a provider to participate in all products. Blue Cross: All of our California networks are proprietary, whether they are PPO/HMO/EPO etc. A provider may participate in one or more of our plan products, but it is not mandatory for a provider to participate in all products. Our physician network has more than 57,000 members. Blue Shield: Blue Shield’s HMO and PPO networks are separate.

SeeChange Health: Yes. We provide extensive training on our products, including HSA-compatible plans. We also work with the state’s major general agencies to help educate brokers.

That said, we share the concerns of regulators and consumers about rising health insurance premiums. As a not-for-profit company whose mission is to provide access to quality, affordable coverage for all Californians, we are taking many actions to address rising medical costs, including collaborations with providers that improve quality while saving money for our customers. In addition, we limit our profits to two percent of revenue, returning anything above two percent to our customers and the community.

Anthem Blue Cross excluded Dr. Nordella – a primary care doctor – from its provider network even though he meets the company’s eligibility criteria, was a participating provider for Anthem Blue Cross for over 10 years, and accepts the terms of its contract. Dr. Nordella, a primary care doctor for 22 years, is the medical director of Porter Ranch Quality Care in California, which serves patients in the communities of Porter Ranch and Northridge. His patients represent the rich diversity of the region and the most fragile populations.
