California boasts the world's fifth largest economy, and is quickly gaining on the United Kingdom. Our nation's next largest state economy New York is about half the size of California's. California's government, both in size and complexity, rivals our nation's Capitol. Moreover, agencies such as the California's Air Resources Board (ARB), Cal-EPA, Cal-OSHA, local air districts, State Water Board, and Department of Toxic and Substance Control create additional challenges for the metalworking industry. California's laws and regulations are consistently stricter than those facing the rest of the nation. State environmental regulations and watchgroups are increasingly stringent. Costs such as utilities, taxes and insurance are also more burdensome than competing states. And the overall vastness of California's government and agencies made it imperative for the metal working industry to unite and provide a statewide voice against onerous government laws and regulations...
