Description

CalStateTEACH is one of the California State University's (CSU) responses to the critical teacher shortage in California. According to the National Education Association, California will need more than 300,000 teachers over the next decade. And though the CSU system would be educating roughly 60 percent of these new teachers, CSU Chancellor Dr. Charles Reed saw the need to do more. He envisioned a program that would combine the flexibility of online learning with the real-world experience new teachers are already gaining in their classrooms. The result of this merger is CalStateTEACH. In August 1998, a group of outstanding CSU teacher education faculty met to design this unique program, and the first cohort entered CalStateTEACH in September 1999. With more than 900 participants now enrolled and over 650 alumni, CalStateTEACH is helping to fulfill the vision that, "Every child deserves to be taught by fully prepared teachers."
