Description

Children will divide their time between a daily small-group lesson in a secure arena and learning about the "off the horse" pieces of riding and horse caretaking, tacking, and grooming. Their daily lesson will be led by a professional instructor with over 10 years of experience teaching riding, working with camps, and working with therapeutic riding. For safety, they will be accompanied by junior counselors on foot in the arena as a "close hand". Student will be introduced to English and Western riding, the differences and uses of each, and become comfortable on the backs of their new friends. Emphasis is placed on communicating with the horse and responding to the horse. Because we focus on developing a relationship with their mount, kids learn to respect nature and treat other creatures as they would like to be treated. Off the horse, campers learn about horse breeds, anatomy, tack, care, and riding styles. They are introduced to driving with our team of Belgian Warmbloods and learn the responsibilities of managing a horse. They will take with them a love of horses and a solid foundation for future riding.
