Description

Capacity International is a small independent consultancy firm that works in partnership with government, non-government organisations (NGOs) and business, in Australia and internationally. Established in 1997, Capacity International focuses on capacity building, particularly with civil society, participatory development, research and writing, policy analysis and design, adult and community learning processes, gender and governance. The consultancies summarised below involved Capacity International’s primary consultants, Joanne Crawford and David Shires . The consultants routinely work together as a team and individually. All design work is collaborative. Ms Crawford is responsible for specialist gender work, policy analysis and development, and all writing including training materials, questionnaires, project design documents and reports. Mr Shires is a learning circle, training and participatory development specialist and has led most of Capacity International’s field activities since 2001. Australian-Karen Youth Association, Melbourne: Participated in feasibility study and pre-design visit to Thailand/ Burma border region. Worked collaboratively with NGOs and other organisations in Australia and the border region to develop projects on youth, environment, governance & leadership International Women’s Development Agency, Melbourne: Developed background paper for 2006 gender indicators workshop; drafted input and edited IWDA organisational profile for AusAID accreditation; developed policy on capacity building; represented IWDA on the ACFID Working Group on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); compiled annotated resource list on gender and the MDGs for the ACFID Gender Equity Working Group; prepared summary report on issues and outcomes from IWDA’s gender and development think tank in July 2003.
