In 1986, Dr. Magdalena Bernat de James started offering medical services to mental health patients as a doctor in the mental Health Unit of the Arecibo Regional Hospital. When the Government of Puerto Rico implemented its Health Reform Program, Dr. Bernat assembled a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to continue offering un-interrupted services to the mental Health patients. That successful professional team was incorporated in July 1999 under its present name, Capitas Inc.
