Description

Being part of the community and contributing makes living in Montpelier rewarding. In 1998, friends Bob Plante and Bob Watson recognized the need for a gathering spot for all members of the community: a place to meet, to converse, to get a quick bite to eat, a place to catch up on the news.Located on the corner of State and Elm (Rt. 12) Streets in Montpelier, the old Chittenden Bank location was ideal for a café. Plante and Watson put together a business plan and on November 12, 1998, Capitol Grounds opened.Perched at the counter looking out onto State Street, one gets a good glimpse of daily life in Montpelier. People heading to work, to the post office, on their lunch break, taking in the sites. Life in Montpelier is seen through the windows of Capitol Grounds.
