CARBIDE.COM is the e-commerce division of Central Coast Saw, Inc., which also includes two full-service sawshops in the central coast region of California: Santa Barbara Saw Service, founded in 1959, and Carbide Saw, Inc., in Ventura. We are tooling specialists, providing grinding services and tooling to over 500 commercial woodshops, as well as thousands of artisans and craftsmen. We sharpen and repair tooling, and we also design and build custom tools.The website, open since the summer of 2000, has its origins in our effort to find better ways of serving our customers. The first step, before we'd ever thought about being on the web, was the in-house development of a reliable database system designed both to boost inventory efficiencies and to streamlinethe tool selection process. Before long, we realized that the same system that was helping our sales staff be more efficient and accurate, could be offered directly to customers, via the internet: that we could, in effect, turn the computers around so that customers could use the same system we used behind the counter. We've done all the design and programming for the website right here, in-house: our web designers are tooling specialists who learned the programming skills needed to build and maintain CARBIDE.COM. We think that's the right way to run a tooling website.
