Cardozo Engineering, Inc. (CE) is a Woman and Hispanic-owned civil and environmental engineering firm founded in 1999. CEs area of expertise is in providing engineering planning, design and construction management services on municipal water, sewer, and stormwater transmission and treatment facilities. CE staff has prepared master plans, conducted CMOM studies, managed SSES programs and designed and managed the construction of pipelines, pump stations and treatment facilities ranging from under $100K up to $100 million.

This project included the evaluation, rehabilitation and upgrade of the 122 mgd treatment facility’s infrastructure and operations to improve treatment facility performance and to ensure consistent compliance with the City’s NPDES discharge permit.

Cardozo Engineering staff performed a search of both historical records and relevant “as-built” drawings, a physical site inspection and condition assessment of the lift stations and pipeline, and met with Port maintenance personnel in order to develop an in-depth understanding as to the present day condition of the pipeline. Historical and current flow data and pump schedule data were obtained in order to develop a capacity utilization study of the force main system.

Under a US EPA and State Consent Decree, the City of Atlanta was required to upgrade the existing 20 mgd East Combined Sewage Treatment Facility and to construct an 85 mgd West Combined Sewage Treatment Facility to provide high-rate treatment of combined sewage to remove inorganic and organic material and to provide disinfection prior to discharging to tributaries of the South River and Chattahoochee River.
