Description

Since 1984, Carousel School has been dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities. In 2010, Carousel School expanded its services to include an Adult Day Program that will provide clients with opportunities to actively engage in a high-quality program and services that will teach them the skills necessary to optimize their quality of life and to be connected with their local community. Adults with special needs (ages 18 to 55) will participate in an integrated full-day program dedicated to helping them become active participants of their communities.

Carousel’s Adult Day Program is a therapeutic and structured full-day program dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults with special needs through strengthening their skills and creating ongoing learning opportunities for adaptations when necessary. The instructional staff to client ratio of 1:3 allows all clients to develop their own unique abilities at their own pace, while the direct and indirect services from occupational, physical, speech, and behavioral specialists provide clients support to overcome obstacles impeding functional skill improvements.

Ann Guzman, M.A. – Behavior Supervisor At Carousel, we understand that children’s behaviors can often interfere with their academic achievement. Rather than allow those behaviors to detract from learning, we provide regular opportunities for our students to grow from these experiences and find replacement behaviors that do not interfere with their learning. Our transdisciplinary team utilizes various techniques and strategies to minimize behaviors and maximize learning opportunities for students.

Carousel has a contract to provide Therapeutic Child Care services to families needing care for their children at risk or identified with having special needs. Our K-1, Pre-school, and Infant centers are full inclusion and bilingual and are able to provide appropriate services by including the clinical services of Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Behaviorists, and Speech Therapists as a part of our classroom curriculum environment. Carousel has a 1:5 adult to student ratio with actual clinical staff participation in the classroom learning centers.

Our transdisciplinary curriculum is enhanced by our special facilities and diverse teaching methods to ensure continuity in all subject areas. Along with a student’s IEP, Carousel’s teachers utilize the California Content Standards and the Curriculum Guide for Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities as tools to develop the curriculum and lessons each year. Teachers also make modifications and adaptations to lessons and their teaching to accommodate each student’s needs.
