Description
Patients can be given oral medications that will reduce anxiety and in some individuals will remove recollection of the procedure. Patients are given several medications in an intravenous fluid that will place them in a drowsy but still conscious state that will remove recollection of the procedure. Patients will believe they were asleep as this is how the mind reconciles the amnesic period. I.V. sedation offers better control, individualization of patient dose and a better treatment experience over oral sedation. Sedation patients are monitored carefully during both oral and I.V. sedation. Patients must not eat or drink anything for six hours prior to the sedation appointment. Patients must be driven to and from their appointment and be in the company of a responsible adult for the remainder of the day.
