The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson will honor three outstanding community leaders at the 2009 Cornerstone Gala on Friday, April 24 at the J.W. Marriott Starr Pass Resort. Jannie Cox, CEO emeritus, Carondelet Foundation; Elena d‛Autremont, program coordinator, Reading is Fundamental; and Ann S. Dickson, retired civil service and community volunteer from Sierra Vista will be presented with the Cornerstone Award for their service to the community and the church. All three honorees have served as past presidents of Catholic Foundation Board of Directors. Jannie Cox retired as Chief Executive Officer of the Carondelet Foundation in 2008. Carondelet Foundation supports the Carondelet Health Network which operates four hospitals in Tucson and Nogales. During her 24 years at Carondelet, Jannie has engaged hundreds of people to invest their time, treasure and talent to promote the healthcare ministry of Carondelet Health Network. Helping kids learn to read is at the heart of Elena d‛Autremont‛s work. As program coordinator for the Reading is Fundamental program for the Pasqua Yaqui tribe, Elena has helped collect and distribute nearly 79,000 books to Tucson area schools. In 2008, the program was recognized with a Reading is Fundamental excellence award by the national organization. Ann S. Dickson arrived in Sierra Vista in 1982 where she retired from civil service at Ft. Huachuca in 1999. Upon retirement she became Catechumenate Director at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, a position she held until 2008. Ann serves on Diocesan Catechumenate Committee and volunteers with the Office of Vocations and Office of Formation at the Diocese. Proceeds from the Cornerstone Gala go to support the Catholic Foundation and the Cornerstone Fund, which was established to meet some of the most pressing needs in the Diocese. The Foundation will announce this year’s grant recipients at the Gala. The mission of the Catholic Foundation is to build endowments to provide perpetual resources to further the religious, educational and charitable ministries in the Diocese of Tucson. Since its inception in 1981, the Foundation has distributed more than $7 million to Catholic organizations in the Diocese.
