Combined Communications was purchased in 1982 by Larry Kinder. At that time it was serving less than 100 local customers using two cord switch-boards and 5 employees. All messages were hand written and held for the client to call in to be verbally given by the operator. The operator was responsible for keeping track of lines ringing and the number of rings while taking messages. In 1983 we expanded the service area to include Glasgow KY, using foreign exchange trunks and Direct Inward Dialed numbers. Many of our original customers are still with us today. In 1985 we did away with the cord-boards and installed a StarTel concentrator and 2700 analogue ACD switch. The new switch now kept tract of the number rings and assigned the call to the first available operator. Although we were still hand writing messages the operators now had a 2 line answer phrase for each client.
